Simple truth revealed

May 16, 2008

Simple fact for me is when I read, I learn.   And the hard fact is that I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer so all the more reason to ask God for wisdom when I read His word.  I’ve said in earlier posts that He has really been showing me more and more from the Vine parable from John 14.  Just simple truths that may be obvious to some but really for me it’s becoming clearer and I think that’s the way the Holy Spirit works.  Here’s the book I’ve been reading

It’s a great daily devotional full of great truths.  The verse today from 2 Corinthians 1:21 really tells me of God’s faithfullness and how much we as believers can trust in Him and not of ourselves.

“Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God.”

With this verse I realize that the same power of God that invited me into this relationship with Christ is also the power that establishes and keeps me firm in Him.  He started it and He will see it finished.

“being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ”  Phil. 1:6

What a great promise from God.  If we will just trust Him for the establishment of our faith.  Abiding in Christ daily and trusting that God will do all the work!  When I try to do the work I mess things up.   My own efforts end in failure.  Sometimes I make worthless promises and vows to God and that doesn’t work.  Here is a great quote from this book:

“What they (we) need is simple faith in the fact that establishing us in Christ, day by day, is God’s work-a work that He delights to do, in spite of all our weakness and unfaithfulness, if we will but trust in Him for it…”

“What peace and rest to fully and finally give up our abiding (in Christ) into the care of God, and to never have a wish or thought, never offer a prayer or engage in an exercise connected with it, without FIRST gladly remembering that what we do is only the manifestation (result) of what God is doing in us!  The establishing in Christ is His work: He accomplishes it by stirring us to watch , wait, and work.  But this He can do with power only as we stop interrupting Him by our selfworking, as we accept in faith the dependent posture that honors Him and opens the heart to let Him work.”  -Andrew Murray

  1. Nice one Ron! I so much struggle with knowing how much I should do and when I should it and how much I should just wait for God to do. This is in carrying out His will for my life.
